3G iPhone Ad vs Real World: A performance comparison

Apple’s “Unslow” 3G iPhone commercial pretends to demonstrated the performance of the device over the 3G network. To put it to the test, I took my own 3G iPhone to the heart of AT&T’s coverage area in MA (Boylston St. in Boston just across the street from Apple’s flagship store).
The video shows a side by side performance comparison running through an identical set of actions.
The results tell the story.

u arent right in some areas its hsdpa coverage and thats up to 7.2 mbit here in denmark so it is fast- the gps u can never be sure but it is locting fast i know

i tested my new iphone in white against this and honestly it wasnt that much slower, exactly i had a 20 second lag at the end, thats all

you can see that during the map locating using GPS the video cuts several times to speed up the actual time it takes.
I own one, it takes some time but I still love it.

Alright stop saying “well compared to other phones,” or “compared to the EDGE network,” or blah blah blah. The videomaker is trying to say the ADVERTISING is misleading. Which is OBVIOUSLY undeniable.

Well they talke about 3G and whats new about it. Not really about the iphone. But!! they movie misleads you because it actually looks darn fast then any other device. And it isn’t.
( i can say.. they phone is quite fast in real life.. ) but still… it’s misleading like other iphone commercials. Like they said you can visit ANY website with it. ( this is NOT true ).. again misleading. I like the products.. i hate the marketing.

it is twice as fast… compared to the edge model.. but yes, it is not comparable to the speed that the ad iphone is going at.. technically, they never said that it’s as fast as the advertised one, just twice as fast as iphone edge

No… theres a difference between believable ads and non believable ads. Why the fuck would a company say theres a phone that is 2 times faster when it is evidently not. Thats misleading.

The facts are that the phone is in fact twice as fast, the ad is obviously highlighting many of the popular applications; there are 4 applications in the 30-seconds ad. that’s less than 8 seconds an application Apple has to drive a point home.
I just sprayed some Axe on my body and there is a hoard of women coming my way.. thank god I believe everything I see in an ad
Of course I can also be subjective when it counts, like I really don’t drive a BMW on a road made of sheets of glass!
