Jordan started wearing it in 1984. Three games into the 1984-85 Season the NBA (David Stern) fined Jordan up to $5,000 for each game he wore the shoe. Why? Because the NBA claimed the shoe didn’t “conform” to the rest of the Bulls uniform, which makes no sense. Nike paid all of the fines and they quickly released this TV commercial
After the commercial was released sales for the shoe went crazy and Nike knew this was going to be the start of something big.
