Don’t you know that money is everything?

The murky mix of players and companies involved in Newfoundland’s growing spending scandal moved into sharper focus Tuesday as the province’s auditor general released another series of politically damaging reports that are sure to attract more police attention.

John Noseworthy prompted a police investigation two weeks ago when he implicated four politicians in a sweeping probe of the legislature’s finances, alleging they overspent their constituency allowances by about $1 million.

But aside from Ed Byrne, a Tory cabinet minister who has resigned, few details were known about the other three politicians involved: former Liberal cabinet minister Jim Walsh and two members of the legislature from Labrador — Liberal Wally Andersen and New Democrat Randy Collins.

Together, the three members allegedly overspent their constituency allowances by $767,000, Noseworthy told a brief news conference Tuesday.
