J&K Scandal – Lawyer Face Legal Threats (CBI)
Previously, we talked about the Jammu & Kashmir rape case. And now it’s getting hotter.
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court, hearing the sex racket case, on Friday adjourned without a hearing of the case, as a judge was not available due to personal reasons.
Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain, the senior judge in the division bench of the court, could not attend proceedings due to some personal reasons, sources said. The court was adjourned without setting the next date for hearing the matter.
However, the CBI submitted a status report on the investigations to Justice B A Kirmani, who also called for the case diary and perused it.
Meanwhile, the CBI on Friday arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police Yusuf Mir in connection with the sex racket.
On Thursday, the agency arrested one of the topmost IAS officers of the state, Iqbal Khanday, in connection with the case.
Indefinite strike
There is fresh trouble in the case, as no one seems willing to defend the accused.
The Jammu Bar Association on Thursday went on an indefinite strike demanding the case be transferred from Srinagar to Jammu as lawyers were being threatened in the main city.
“Lawyers in Jammu will remain on an indefinite strike until the case is transferred to Jammu,” said V S Wazir, President, Bar Association, Jammu.
Jammu Bar association member Sunil Sethi defending his brother Anil Sethi, the former additional advocate general, has asked for protection.
Another lawyer, Moulvi Ajaz who had appeared for DSP Mohammad Ashraf has withdrawn from the case. It is believed that he too was threatened.
