Etisalat and Research In Motion (RIM) launched the BlackBerry mobile e-mail service for corporate users last week, claiming it will redefine business mobility in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

As the first service provider to introduce the BlackBerry wireless platform to the Gulf, Etisalat said it fought for over two years to bring it to the region.

BlackBerry has over five million subscribers worldwide, mainly in Europe and the US. BlackBerry devices are mainly used to keep in constant touch with e-mails, sending and receiving, but they also support phone, SMS, internet, organiser and corporate data applications.
