Cell Phone Virus: Virus-hit mobile users dial for protection
CABIR , Skudoo, Skull, are not the names of any animation characters. They are mobile viruses which enter the phones either through bluetooth or SMS and corrupt the data
According to Kartik Shahani, Director, Sales and Marketing, India and SAARC, McAfee, an IT security solutions company based in California, Red Browser, a virus launched in early February 2006 is the most dangerous one because it comes as a service SMS or MMS and corrupts the data.Tim Deluca-Smith, Communications Manager, SmartTrust, an IT security solutions provider headquartered at Sweden says at the moment, the market penetration of feature rich phones is just 15% but the virus penetration in this market is 30%.
Currently there are approximately 23 individual malware with 142 variants and 257 packages. Some of the known malware are AppDisabler, BlankFont, Brador, Cadomesk, CommWarrior, Dampig, Doomboot, Drever, Dutts, Fontal, Hobbes, Lasco, Locknut, Mabir, Mabtal, MultiDropper, OneHop, QDial, and Yot. The most susceptible platform to virus is Symbian OS which is a very common mobile platform also. Most of the high-end phones are exposed to these virus attacks.
